I have a Dell Poweredge 2900 III server and it has stopped the boot up process because it says that the Zero drive is foreign. Of course the Zero drive contains Windows 2008 Enterprise so we can't boot it up using the operating system. The system has a 5/i LSI controller card in it. Can anyone tell me step by step how to get this thing going again. The systems can see the drives.

I am having a devil of a time figuring out how to install Novell SLES11 SP2 on this server. When I run the ISO installer I get and error No Hard Drive found, please check your hardware. So I am trying to find a SLES11 SP2 linux driver at Support. I only find a SLES10 SP4 and Redhat drivers for linux. I am not sure how to try and load one of those, as they are delivered as rpm's. Any advise welcome.
PS. The OpenManage installer does not give me the partition tools I need (LVM, EVMS, selection of format) and states that it will delete the Dell Management and default fat32 partitions. I really want to preserve that Dell Management partition in case hardware diagnostics are ever needed.

As long as a non-Dell drive is recognized by the H710P controller, and I'm able to set it up in a RAID, will RAID errors with regard to the non-Dell drives be reported? I setup a RAID10 (16 x 256GB crucial m4 SSDs) in a R720, and it appears in the OS just fine, but since they aren't OEM drives all the amber lights are always blinking. I can live with that, but what I can't live with is a non-Dell drive failure within the RAID that isn't reported by the H710P controller, since it isn't Dell branded.

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900 that was working correctly. It has the PERC 5i raid card. I configured it to use 2 disks as a raid 1 mirror virtual disk and 5 disks as a raid 5 virtual disk with the last disk as a global hot spare. The drive in slot 3 has failed with a flashing continuous amber light. I got a new drive and installed it in slot 3 and I still have an amber flashing light. I took a disk from slot 4 and moved it to slot 3 and moved the new disk to slot 4. It started to rebuild the disk in slot 4. The disk that was moved to slot 3 is now flashing amber. Is it a bad slot 3?

Drive failed, no issue (that is why we have Raid, right?)
Replaced with space, booted to Windows, only to find that in OpenManage there is NO option to do anything to the storage (apart from blink)
Is the only option to reboot yet again & do it in its own configuration utility?

Hi,
I have 3 nos. of HDD(say,Model No: xxxx) in which Win2k3 Server SP2 is loaded with RAID-5 confuiguration. Out of the 3 HDD's One of the HDD failed, due to this the system configuration was changed from RAID-5 to RAID-1.
Later at one stage one the HDD under RAID-1 failed, Under this condition the 2nd HDD is also disabled.Now System is running with Sigle HDD.
With above suitation, I would like to know the answers for the below Options,
Q1. Under unavaiablity of simiarilar Model of existing HDD,if the Newer HDD is model is not matching however the Size matches. Does the system will sychronise with the existing HDD ?
Q2. What should be done if I have to use 2 new HDD with RAID -1 configuration ?

When entering setup, there is no entry for Integrated Devices. Why not? What do I need to do to correct this?
Also I'm having a problem installing an OS. Ubuntu installs and runs okay, but it's not the OS of choice. I'd like to install either SME SErver or CentOS, however both of these fail in the same way. They appear to install, but when the machine boots, it just keeps rebootingall the time.

I'm trying to install new Hitachi Ultrastar 4tb drives in our power edge 2900 but it is only recognizing 2tb drives and not the full 4tb. From what I've researched it seems like the perc 5i controller has a 2tb limitation. my question is if I went ahead and installed the two 4tb drives in RAID 1 configuration and only got 2tb of space would this be safe or would my data be likely to get corrupt. Since the drives are paid for I am stuck with them and would like to use it if it's ok, even if I don't get the full capacity. Other option would be to upgrade the controller I guess but I think that would be very expensive.
